Welcome to our final newsletter for Term 2!
It has certainly been a jam-packed term here for our students and staff. We began the athletics season with a very successful two-day carnival last week. Thank you to Mr Nott for his organisation, Mrs Frizzell for her planning and documentation and to the staff for ensuring all events ran smoothly. Our students were the stars over the two days. There were displays of sportsmanship, grit and determination that we were very proud of. I would like to acknowledge and congratulate our record breakers, age champions and runners up. I would also like to commend those students who show up, give their best and embody the true spirit of sports days where effort, perseverance and house pride matter more than a place.
Congratulations to Deacon House for winning the war cry trophy and to Gwynne for being the victorious house on the day.
Semester 1 report cards will be sent to families and carers, in Week 1 of Term 3. The assessing and reporting periods have been extended to ensure staff and students have the time required to complete the curriculum, teaching and learning requirements of Queensland state schools.
Prep-Year 10 requirements for reporting to parents for all state schools are as follows:
- Provide a plain language academic report, twice a year
- Report on what was provided in the reporting period
- Report as A, B, C, D and E
- Offer parents the opportunity to discuss their child’s achievement and progress with their child’s teachers twice a year
- Report on students who have an endorsed Individual Curriculum Plan (ICP), as appropriate to the category of ICP
2025 - The Year of Reading - Queensland state schools are adopting a consistent statewide approach to teaching reading that reflects the latest research and has a strengthened focus on phonics in the early years. At Allora P-10 State School we are committed to teach reading every day, in every classroom. This occurs in all learning areas and in all classrooms as students read and engage with a variety of texts.
As part of this commitment, our staff are building their capabilities by
- attendance at reading masterclasses
- engagement with self-paced Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) and explicit instruction modules on the Reading Portal
- participation in the DDSW Leading the Implementation of Reading through the Australian Curriculum Professional Learning Community
The staff are committed to supporting every student to reach their potential through the use of evidence-informed teaching practices.
Staffing update - Mr Adam Moore will be taking leave for Term 3. Ms Jenny Russell has been employed to cover Mr Moore’s absence and will be teaching Music to our Prep-Year 7 students and offering Media Arts as an elective in secondary.

A Note from the Library
What a wonderful term it has been for our school library. Lots of fantastic borrowing from staff and students, as well as Book Club and Book Fair.
Book Fair was a huge success, and I once again thank everyone who visited our fair.
Thank you also to Mrs Nicky Veal (secondary teacher) who kindly donated some amazing toys and books to our school library. They are being put to good use by the primary students.
Remember, library books are now due back to the school library and borrowing will continue again in Term 3. During the school holidays students can access the SORA app and read digital copies of books and magazines (age appropriate) for their enjoyment.
Book Week will be celebrated from 16 to 23 August. The theme for this year is “Book an Adventure”. More information will be provided in Term 3.

The Resilience Project

The Resilience Project - Survey 2025
Student resilience, mental health and wellbeing are key factors in ensuring a happy and fulfilling future for our young people. This year we have chosen to partner with Resilient Youth Australia who have surveyed more than 900 000 Australian school students aged 8-18 and over 3500 schools since 2013.
Early in Term 3, we will administer the 2025 Survey online, in class time. Students typically take 20-30 minutes to complete the survey. The survey is completely voluntary and anonymous, and no individual student can be identified.
The survey collects information regarding self-reported resilience, mental health and wellbeing of students and will provide us with valuable information to support key strengths and address challenges.
The data from the survey is reported in aggregate descriptive form only, by year level and gender.

Chess Competition
Twenty-nine Allora P-10 State School students attended the 5th Southern Downs Bi-Annual Chess Tournament, hosted by Allora P-10 State School. This is part of a tournament rotation between Allora P-10 State School, Assumption College, Clifton State School and St Joseph’s in Stanthorpe.
In the secondary division, Lochlan won his second prize in this tournament, by winning the best Year 8 player. He finished 5th overall (2nd on overall points, 5th after countback).
Alex (Yr 10) earned four wins to come 11th and Trixie (Yr 9) earned 3 wins. Both students have been competing in chess competitions since they were in Year 4.
In the primary division, Jesse (Yr 5) earned 5.5 points and finished 3rd overall. Jackson (Yr 7), Graysen, Aydan and Tiffany (all Yr 6) each scored five points from a maximum of seven, and shared 15th to 18th places.
A massive thankyou to the Tuckshop for their exemplary work in getting the extra 80-plus students fed. The work was noticed by all the participating schools and they were absolutely grateful for the opportunity to support our tuckshop!
Another thankyou goes to Mrs Sarina Johnson from the Sunshine Coast who hand-made and donated the six trophies. They truly are the unique feature of the Allora P-10 State School hosted Chess Competition.
The next tournament is scheduled for early Term 4 at Clifton State School. Thank you to all who played the great game of chess for your behaviour and attitude on the day. See you at the next one!

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
- year of schooling
- category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
- level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
- formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
- consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
- develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).

Dental Van - Queensland Health
The School Dental Van or Clinic has completed treatments at Allora P-10 State School. If any child experiences a toothache concern while treatment is not being offered at our school, please phone:
- Darling Downs Oral Health Call Centre on 1300 082 662 (option 3)
between 8am-12pm Monday to Friday.
Outside of these hours please attend the Emergency Department at your closest hospital. All other routine matters such as check-ups, orthodontic assessments and fillings cannot be provided until the dental van returns to the school.
As an alternative, dental care may be sought any time at a private dental practice.
Parent Help Line
Parentline is a free, confidential counselling service available for all Queensland parents and carers. If you need support navigating challenging situations, Parentline offers qualified counsellors who can help with expert advice, emotional support and referrals when needed.
Parentline’s services include:
- practical parenting resources on their website
- live webchat with professional counsellors
- phone support for immediate assistance (1300 30 1300)
- the option to pre-book ongoing sessions with the same counsellor
- online counsellor-facilitated parenting forums for shared support
- referrals to other family support services when additional help is needed.
Get help supporting your child with:
- bullying
- relationships
- peer pressure
- anxiety
- depression
- and more.

Congratulations to all students on their sportsmanship and participation at the Interhouse Track and Field Carnival held last Thursday and Friday. Thank you to all staff who assisted in the smooth running of the carnival.
Congratulations to the following students who broke records: 12Yrs Girls 3000m, Graysen, Gwynne, 14:55.21 (15:02.81, Chaylah, Deacon, 2022); 11Yrs Girls 1500m, Ellie, Deacon, 6:35.65 (6:41.64, Lucy McMillan, Deacon, 2023) and Girls 11/12 Yrs 4x100m relay, Deacon, 1:03.80 (Ellie, Ruby, Allison and Chelsea); (1:04.11, Deacon, 2019).
