Principal's Report

It is hard to believe we are here at the end of Term 1!
A huge congratulations to those students who competed in our Annual Interhouse Cross Country event. Our students got in and gave it their all and displayed team spirit and sportsmanship during the events. Congratulations to the age champions and runners up and to the students of Gwynne House who took out champion house on the day.
Our primary staff have been engaging with the Department’s recommendations for Reading Through the Australian Curriculum. 100% of the teaching staff have attend the Reading Masterclasses which explained the evidence-based processes behind the reading initiative and how it can be implemented in our classrooms. Recently, we were invited to be participants in DDSW Reading Through the Curriculum Professional Learning Community where staff expressed an interest in becoming a reading champion for the school and supporting their colleagues to implement a targeted reading plan throughout the primary classrooms. Our reading champions met with Regional Office staff, Central Office staff, principals and primary teachers this week to hear student success stories of this implementation in other schools. We are very excited about how implementing a common, focused process throughout the primary classrooms will support all of our students to be successful in their learning. This process will also be adopted in some of our secondary classrooms in Semester 2.
The School Improvement Unit has finalised the report from our recent school review. I am very thankful to everyone who took the time to speak with the team and provide feedback for the next steps in Allora P-10 State School’s Strategic Plan. The Executive Summary (below) is a snapshot of the review detailing those next steps for the Allora P-10 School Community.
On Tuesday 1 April, the P&C will be holding the AGM followed by a general meeting in the staffroom at 5pm. All executive positions will be declared vacant at the AGM. The P&C provides support for our school and students in many ways. The most important service they provide is the running of our tuckshop. If there is no P&C executive, a decision will have to be made regarding the operation of the tuckshop. Further into this newsletter, are the role descriptions for P&C Executive positions.
On Friday 4 April, we will be having a free dress and crazy hair day to support the Ross Family’s fundraising efforts for the Leukaemia Fund’s Shave for A Cure. A recent article in the Allora Advertiser (http://www.alloraadvertiser.com/papers/3835-AAMar1225.pdf) is the motivation behind our staff and students wanting to support one of our families as they attend treatments and care for a family member with Leukaemia.
I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday and look forward to seeing you all in Term 2.
Kind regards
Megan

School holidays are fast approaching, which means that all library books must be returned next week. Please remind your students to bring their library books back to school.
SORA is a great way to read books during the school holidays. This is an online platform where students just need their school User ID to login. There are so many great books on SORA as well as magazines and audio books.
Our annual Book Fair is coming in May. It will be held in our school library and books will be available to purchase. Watch this space for more information.
