Principal's Report

Welcome to Term 4 at Allora P-10 State School. We have had a very busy and productive first two weeks back!
The female students from Years 9 and 10 began Term 4 with a trip to TAFE in Toowoomba for the NAWIC (National Association of Women in Construction) speed careering event. The girls met with inspiring women who are working, training or running their own business in male dominated industries such as building, plumbing and diesel maintenance. The students were able to ask questions, learn more about the trades, the possibilities of work experience and the availability of funding sources.
Our Year 5, 6, 9 and 10 students have been working with Unleashing Your Personal Potential (UPP.) UPP is a student leadership and wellbeing incursion that empowers students to thrive as they learn, live and lead in our school and community. The Year 5 students worked through the Aspire Higher workshop which is designed to equip senior primary students with practical leadership skills, build strong peer relationships, and inspire them to lead by example - whether or not they have a badge.
The Year 6 students completed Peer Relationships which is designed to strengthen students’ personal and social capabilities, helping them build more positive and meaningful interactions with others. The workshop aims to equip students with strategies to navigate their social world with empathy, confidence, and respect, whilst also reducing judgement around perceived differences.
The Year 9 and 10 students participated in the Equip Leadership program. Which is an interactive, hands-on experience that called on every student to lead through their influence, strengths, teamwork and actions.
On Monday, our Year 7 and 8 students participated in the THRIVE workshop which is designed to help students develop their growth mindset, grit, wellbeing, positive relationships and leadership skills - all essential for becoming their best selves.
All students participating in the UPP programs have been using the A.S.P.I.R.E. framework to assist them to become both great leaders and effective team players in all situations. This model is also a great reminder for us, as adults, on how we navigate our day to day.

The students were all complimented on their positive behaviours and willingness to participate and persevere when things got tough. Our school staff were so proud of the students during these days.
The Year 10 students are at camp this week. The camp this year is the Southeast Queensland experience with students spending time in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. The students will be visiting Parliament House in Brisbane, GOMA, Toowong Cemetery for a historical night walk, Australia Zoo, Sea Life, Bli Bli Water Sports and the Sunshine Coast University. We are really looking forward to this experience and will be sharing our travels on the school Facebook page over the week.
We are committed to quality teaching, consistency and continuous improvement. By engaging in moderation, our teaching staff have worked collaboratively with schools from the Southern Downs cluster to discuss student work, compare evidence and confirm that assessment judgements are accurate. This collaborative approach has deepened knowledge of curriculum standards and refined assessment practices across the school. I would like to thank Linda Sharman-Bowman for her efforts in the organising group and the teachers for their openness and willingness to participate and improving learning outcomes for every student.
We look forward to welcoming our 2026 Prep families to our orientation days this term. Miss Sinnamon, Miss Leesa and the 2025 Prep class have planned some interactive, fun and engaging experiences to allow the future students to explore our classroom and school. If you know of anyone who has a 2026 aged Prep student, please let them know of all we do here to ensure we are transitioning our families and students successfully.
We warmly welcome Miss Emily Hough who has joined our staff this term. Emily will be teaching Years 8, 9 and 10 English, as well as Year 9 and 10 Social and Community Studies.
Kind regards
Megan

Events Calendar

General Information
Office Hours: 8:30am to 3:30pm. Email: admin@allorass.eq.edu.au Phone : 4666 7222
School Hours: School hours start at 8:30am and conclude at 3:00pm. Students are not permitted in the grounds prior to 8:30am in the mornings, unless special arrangements have been made.
Reminder: Students are reminded to enter school through the gates and avoid walking through the office unless they are late. Students arriving late must collect a late slip from the office before going to class.
Personal Details/Emergency Contacts: If you have changed your address, email or phone number, please advise the office so contact details can be kept up to date. Emergency contacts must also be up to date as students are not permitted to leave the school grounds with anyone who is not listed. Updates can be made by contacting the office. Students leaving early must be signed out at the office.
Student Absences: It is a requirement for student absences to be explained. QParents is an ideal place to go to explain student absences. Otherwise, you can SMS Student Absences to 0429 316 194 at any time of the day or night, or alternatively, call the Student Absence Line on 4666 7266, with an explanation of your student’s absence and their name.
After-School Arrangements: Prior to sending your child to school, students and parents/carers are encouraged to discuss any changes to pick-up arrangements, especially if they differ from the normal routine. This will assist to reduce the relaying of messages throughout the day, which causes interruptions to student learning. Also, students are less likely to be distressed, miss their bus or parents/carers be inconvenienced.
Concerns? From time to time during the school year, concerns may crop up regarding your child or a school matter. I invite parents/carers to make early contact and an appointment with your child’s teacher to clarify any concerns and come to an early resolution.

A Note from the Library
Welcome back. I hope that you all had a restful break. Library borrowing will continue as normal this term with students borrowing on the following days:
- Magnificent Monday Year 2
- Tremendous Tuesday Year 3 and Year 1
- Thabulous Thursday Year 4 and Year 5
- Fantastic Friday Year 6
Please ensure your child has a library bag to put their books into. This helps protect library books and they are easier to find.
Book Club has been ordered and will be distributed when it arrives.
Congratulations to all students from Prep to Year 9 who participated in the annual Premier’s Reading Challenge. Certificates will be handed out shortly.
I have decided to add a bit of trivia each newsletter - DID YOU KNOW that a giraffe can lick inside its own ears?
Have a great week.
